Welcome back from Spring Break! Spring in Calgary is full of surprises like – more snow! We’re excited to explore the changes around us when the snow melts and new plants start to grow. Right now, we’re enjoying stories and pictures to say, “Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring!”
This is a favourite time of year in Kindergarten as we become
curious about sounds, letters, and symbols and we start the important work of learning
to be writers! Using Mrs. Sutherland’s “magic Kindie wand,” we became authors
and illustrators this week. In a
Squiggly story, the young boy discovers he can write an amazing story with the
power of his imagination, pictures, and marks on a page. We were excited to create
our own stories – words or no words!
We read "Sarabella's Thinking Cap" and discussed creativity and ideas. Inspired by Sarabella, who drew her daydreams and said, “If you want to share it, you’ve just got to wear it,” we brainstormed writing topics and created our own "thinking caps" featuring our favorite things, like family, dinosaurs, flowers, and rainbows. We'll use these ideas in our future writing!
We’ve been working hard to learn new "Lively Letters" sounds. You can view our lesson videos on Google Classroom! Please check your child's Google account, click on the classroom link, “Classwork” and practice with them. We know 20 sounds already and are working on using the "Tap and Sweep" method to blend sounds together!
🏊Swimming April 28-May 1. Information with schedule and permission forms were sent home this week. Please sign and return as soon as possible. Volunteers will be needed. Please check that you have a current volunteer security clearance if you are interested in volunteering!
