Healthy Bodies last week and now...Healthy Wellness!!
Last week, we talked about keeping our bodies healthy. This week, we learned all about Healthy Wellness — which means understanding and sharing our feelings. We learned that sometimes we can feel happy, sad, angry, scared, and calm. We read books that showed us it's OK to have different emotions. We read stories that showed us all feelings are normal and an important part of our social wellness journey.  Ask your child, “How are you feeling today?” and listen as they tell you about their feelings. Talking about our feelings helps us understand ourselves better and makes us good friends.

We read about the Colour Monster who wakes up feeling very confused. His emotions are all over the place. He feels angry, happy, calm, sad, and scared all at once. Colours are one way we can help young children to unpack their feelings and identify their emotions to feel more in control. Ask your child what colour monster they feel like today?

We also shared a special book called "In My Heart" by Jo Witek.  It shows the many feelings we have inside our hearts. Each feeling was captured with words, colours, and pictures, like "happy, calm, sad, afraid, mad, silly, and more."  Here are some of our drawings showing what is in our hearts.

SNOW fun- Winter weather arrived! We made snow angels and tried to catch falling snowflakes on our mittens and tongues. Thank you to all our families for sending your children with warm hats, mittens, snow pants, and boots. We also visited our “Fletcher’s tree” to see how it looks covered in snow. Fletcher is a fox from a picture book story who learned about all the seasons from his favorite tree.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Name Trees

This week, students had a must-do that used ALL the skills they've been learning since September. After reading a story about the alphabet letters climbing a coconut tree, the students added fall leaves to a Canadian-style tree with the letters of their name on them. They had to colour the tree, count the number of letters in their name, print a letter on each leaf, cut out the leaves, arrange them in the order of the letters in their name, and glue them securely to their tree picture! Well done! And...students were very excited to remind their teachers that they had "no chicken wings" while they used their scissors. Not sure what that means? Ask your child to tell you about 6 star cutting!

Brush Brush Brush Your Teeth! This week we explored many activities and lessons about being healthy. We started with how to keep our teeth healthy. We read stories, watched videos to learn about cavities and eating foods that are good for our teeth. Ask your child about the "2" Rule for healthy teeth.

We read a book called "Ollie the Boy Who Became What He Ate" and then we tried to make ourselves turn into an Ollie pop by picking a good food that would give us lots of "power" or energy.

Germs vs Soap We also learned about keeping those pesky germs away using soap. Germs like to hang out on our hands and make us unhealthy. But Soap is to the rescue...have your child show you the steps to washing the germs from your hands.

In math, we have been working on PATTERNS! We have learned that the core of a pattern repeats and we can label patterns with letters...ask your kiddo about AB, ABC, AABB patterns they might have made during math tubs recently!
