A community is a place where we live, work, and play! We began our week with a community walk to explore the areas around our school. We saw bus stops, traffic lights, houses, street signs, skating rinks, soccer fields, playgrounds, and tennis courts.
Next we explored pictures of the buildings in the community. Students were so excited when they recognized familiar places in their community like the Esso, 7-11, and Dairy Queen.
The illustrations of the story Watcha Building? mix old with new, recycled materials with hand-drawn buildings! Ask your child what they liked best about the story!
Students focused on details that make a house: shapes, numbers, materials, and the parts of a house. A House by Kevin Henkes used questions to help us look even more deeply into what makes a house a home. Check out our houses.
Kindie-Town is starting to look like a community with our buildings and houses! The entire project can be viewed at Student Led Conferences next month!
A huge THANK YOU to Mrs. Weatherbee for helping us! She single-handedly created these bulletin boards!!
Morning Reading - Some people read the morning newspaper, some like to do the crossword. Our kindies like to "read" picture books - much can be learned just from the pictures: Who is in the story? What are they doing? What happens at the beginning? Is there a problem to solve? How does the story end? Try a picture walk with your child using their SVS library book! Have them retell their favorite story.
Update on Pumpkin Jack
We have noticed some interesting things happening in our Pumpkin Jack container! Ask your child what they have observed with 4 of their senses (we don't taste the plant. )
