This week was filled with rainbows and leprechauns! We focused on social-emotional learning about what we can do and what we can't do…YET!
Students had fun building leprechaun traps for a STEM
challenge using building materials in the class. Perhaps you and your child might
have fun creating your own building challenge during the Spring Break.
The Rainbow is a traditional Cree story that has been passed down orally. The story ties together the colours of the rainbow with gratitude for all creation. It was gifted to Jean Miso (in English) by Plains Cree Elder and second World War veteran James "Smokey" Tomkins. We created beautiful art work with rainbow colours. We learned from the story to be grateful for each colour in the rainbow because it reminds us of beauty in nature. We are grateful for the yellow sun, the green grass, the blue water...
** I can talk about and identify feelings.**
A key part of our kindergarten experience is celebrating our
uniqueness. We read Remarkably You and discussed our special
talents, such as singing, caring for animals, skipping rope, and scoring hockey
goals. We also began a conversation about the "Power of
Yet"—transforming "I can't do it" into "I can't do it...YET"—to foster a positive growth mindset!
