This week, we focused on PEACE! We read stories, painted poppies, and explored what makes us feel peaceful using our senses. We learned that kindness and our own actions can promote peace. We discussed "What Does Peace Feel Like?" We talked about what it might smell like, taste like, look like. We had some amazing ideas!!
We created a beautiful field of poppies inspired by Indigenous art with Lance Cardinal, using balloons dipped in paint to start our collaborative work, then adding details with Sharpies and paint sticks.
We traced our hands and cut them out to make a poppy to create a special wreath for the Friday Remembrance Day assembly.
We read Todd Parr's “The Peace Book" that shares the importance of friendship, caring, and acceptance like "peace is saying your sorry when you hurt someone," and "peace is thinking about someone you love." We worked in our visual journals to show what peace means to us using the Todd Parr style of illustrating in our responses!
Ms. Garner, our music teacher shared a lovely song, "Light a Candle for Peace," for the entire school to learn so we could sing it all together at the Friday assembly.
We also listened to music, poetry, and a trumpet performance honoring veterans. Our wreaths were displayed proudly at the front. Thank you to the big kids and teachers for sharing such important songs, photographs and poetry with our school. Ask your child about their favorite part of the ceremony!
Thank you for your support in nurturing a peaceful spirit in our Kindergarten community!
