January 19-13, 2026

This week in kindergarten, we explored the magic of snow and snowmen!

We wondered, what do snowmen do after we go to bed? The story Snowmen at Night showed us all the fun snowmen have when the sun goes down—drinking ice-cold cocoa, skating, sledding, having snowball fights, and even playing baseball with a broom and a snowball! Check out our journal drawings to see our favorite snowman activities.

We also imagined what it would be like if snowmen could have fun all year long. Students created seasonal pictures showing snowmen in spring, summer, fall, and winter. Be sure to ask your child which season was their favorite!

Do snowmen ever get cold? We met Sneezy the Snowman, who tried many ways to warm up—but kept melting! After brainstorming ways a snowman might melt, we painted melted snowmen using puffy paint and wrote about their melting adventures.

Finally, we read about snowmen and the jobs they do, helping us begin learning about community helpers—something we’ll explore more in the coming weeks.

Fridays are days we focus on printing our lowercase letters.  Last week we practiced the "downer letters" - l,i,t,f.  Now we are learning about the "rounder letters" - c,o,e,a,d

Why Lowercase Letters Matter
Lowercase letters appear most often in books and everyday print, so children need to know them to read real text. Many lowercase letters look alike (like b/d and p/q), and practicing them helps strengthen visual skills for reading. Learning letters is the foundation for understanding words, sentences, and becoming a confident reader.

Key Skills for Kindergarten

  • Letter Recognition: Naming uppercase and lowercase letters accurately
  • Matching: Pairing uppercase and lowercase letters (A/a)
  • Formation: Writing letters with correct size and direction

What a fun-filled week! We hope we’ll have some fresh snow outside for next week❄️
