💖 Kindness Matters in
Kindergarten! 💖
This week in Kindergarten, we learned all about kindness
— being kind to ourselves, our families, classmates, school, community, and
even our world!
We met some special Canadian Indigenous Kindness Critters who sent us videos and kindness challenges to try. Ask your child what they did this week to show kindness to themselves, their families, big kids, and friends!
Meet Bizzy Beaver & Mo the Moose!
These friendly critters (created by Chris Kewistep and Paul Windsor) helped us think about being kind and celebrating who we are.
We practiced being kind to ourselves by accepting our
uniqueness. We drew self-portraits and picked three words that
describe us. Some of our words were:
I am… grateful, loving, a good kindness friend, a hard
worker, creative, kind, silly, talented, brave… and more!
Special Guest: Mrs.
Azzopardi & Kindness Kangaroo
Mrs. Azzopardi joined us with her friend Kindness
Kangaroo to read “What Does it Mean to Be Kind?” We talked about ways
we can be kind to each other.
We also learned a new kindness song to sing with a
friend:
“I like you. Yes, I do. Will you be a friend of mine? I like
you.”
Then we made kindness bookmarks for our grade 5 math helpers and created posters to share kindness around our school.
💖 PINK SHIRT DAY –
Wednesday, February 25 💖
Many kindies wore pink shirts to celebrate kindness
and support anti-bullying.
We read “Say Something” by Peter Reynolds, which
teaches how one voice can make a difference. Around the school, we shared kind messages and gave high fives to teachers and big kids:
“You are awesome!”
“Thank you for helping us!”
“Happy Kindness Day!”
“Happy Pink Shirt Day!”
Every day is a chance to show kindness with our
actions, words, and voices.
Kindness counts!
🤝 Thursday’s Kindness
Challenge
We talked about being a friend to others. We read the
funny story “Enemy Pie”, where a dad shows his son how anyone can become
a friend if you’re willing to try.
We learned that friendship and kindness go hand in
hand — and it’s fun to make new friends! The Kindness Book by Todd Parr shared so many ideas of how to be kind to others. Check out our drawings of what we learned about kindness this week.
