Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn- This is Me in October
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Name Trees
This week, students had a must-do that used ALL the skills they've been learning since September. After reading a story about the alphabet letters climbing a coconut tree, the students added fall leaves to a Canadian-style tree with the letters of their name on them. They had to colour the tree, count the number of letters in their name, print a letter on each leaf, cut out the leaves, arrange them in the order of the letters in their name, and glue them securely to their tree picture! Well done! And...students were very excited to remind their teachers that they had "no chicken wings" while they used their scissors. Not sure what that means? Ask your child to tell you about 6 star cutting!
Each of us created an October self-portrait using the skills we learned about drawing Mat Man in September. We had so much fun adding extra details! We could show our eye color, the patterns and colors of our clothes, and the styles of our hair — whether it's a ponytail, braids, short hair, spiky hair, curls, and more!
Have you ever wondered why trees lose their leaves? Fletcher
the Fox did too! He loved his favorite tree, but when it started dropping its
leaves, Fletcher got worried. Fletcher discovered something really special about his tree
and why it was changing. It was all about the beautiful seasons! Ask your child what was their favorite part of the story.
Here are more autumn picture books available at our school library and the Calgary Public Library you may like to read with your child.
Over the next few weeks, our students will be practicing writing their names! Each student will have a special booklet made just for them. It’s filled with fun activities to help them become name-writing superstars! Get ready for lots of creativity and learning! See a few sample pictures below.
Playtime- indoors and outdoors!!
Thank you for always making sure your child is dressed for the weather as we try to go outside daily!
This week we had some students decide to play school and "read" stories to each other just like we do as teachers!
