April 7-11, 2025

This week, we continued our works as writers! We can draw, write, and share our ideas. We used techniques from Adrienne Gear's Powerful Writing Structures, like writing about special memories, facts, and using our imaginations. Even if we can’t write all the letter sounds in the words yet, we can use squiggles and symbols to express ourselves!

First, we read The Memory Tree by Britta Teckentrup to learn about our "Memory Pockets: I remember when…” We shared our special memories, like going for ice cream or camping. Ask your child about the memory they chose to write about!

Next, we explored facts by looking at both fiction and non-fiction books. We read What Do You Do With a Tail Like This and discovered new animal facts. We wrote from our “Fact Pockets: I know…” Here are some cool facts our students shared:

Turtles go slow.
Rainbows are made from rain and sun.
Plants need sun to grow.
Snow is cold. It snows in winter.

We also learned about imaginative stories by reading Grumpycorn. We realized that imaginative tales do not have to real, but they can be fun and exciting! Here are some of the creative stories our students came up with:

I jumped high to outer space.
I am swimming with a mermaid.
I imagine I walked with dinosaurs in the rain.
I am invisible.

Finally, we enjoyed the lovely spring weather and talked about how spring helps the Earth come alive. We learned about the water cycle with a story about Little Raindrop. Mrs. Oster showed us the water cycle and how water changes form, and Mrs. Wiskar did a cool experiment to show how steam turns back into rain. Ask your child what they remember about the water cycle!

Collaborative Fun: Building Dreams Together! During centre time, students came together to create an impressive 3D structure, fostering a positive atmosphere through collaboration and support. By sharing materials and strategies, they demonstrated the power of teamwork, combining their strengths to achieve remarkable results. This experience not only enhanced their project but also reinforced friendships and developed essential teamwork skills.

Your child brought home a white form this week from Ken Stewart Photography that you need to fill in and return by Monday, April 14th if you want your child to have a Spring photo taken!!

This is a fundraiser for the school that the photographer contributes based on forms returned....you do not have to purchase photos afterward.

If you do not return the form, the photographer WILL NOT take your child's photo. You do not have to purchase a photo package.
