This week in kindergarten, we learned all about ducks!
On Monday, we discovered that ducks can swim, fly, and even make nests inside trees where they lay their eggs. We also learned that ducks have webbed feet, which help them swim fast, and that they like to eat plants and insects. We "candled" our duck eggs and feel excited that some may have ducklings growing inside!
On Tuesday, we practiced drawing realistic ducklings by watching a special video from an amazing artist and following step by step instructions from Mrs. Sutherland. It was so exciting to see how much the kids have improved since September! They even added details to show the their fuzzy ducklings covered in down feathers.
On Wednesday, we used what we learned about ducks to to sequence and label the duck’s life cycle. The students worked very hard and paid close attention to the order of the life cycle.
On Thursday, we read a fun story called Waddles by David McPhail. In the story, Waddles the raccoon has a duck friend, and when her ducklings hatch, Waddles feels very happy and a little worried about them flying south for the winter. The students loved sharing their favorite parts of the story!
Library News from Mrs. Kruger! Library books are due BY JUNE 9th, 2025...there is a school wide competition to see which grade can return their books the fastest that week so please ensure your child returns their book by Monday, June 9th.
