This week, Kindergartens learned more about 2D shapes and explored the busy world of bugs and bees!
Math – Shapes:
We are shape hunters! We watched a video to review shape attributes and learned
that shapes are everywhere. During a classroom scavenger hunt, we found
real-life examples. Encourage your child to spot shapes at home (e.g., a clock
is a circle, a hanger is a triangle, a door is a rectangle, and windows are
squares).
Science – Bugs and Bees:
We introduced the topic on bugs in preparation for our special guest, “Lady
Buggy,” at the start of next week. Students are learning that insects play an important
role in helping plants grow. They also drew and labeled three bugs in their
journals.
We began our inquiry into bees. While some students are
nervous about bees, we hope this learning will ease their fears. We started by
asking questions, reading a story, and completing a directed drawing of a bee
with labeled parts. We learned that bees have six legs, three body parts (head,
thorax, abdomen), and black-and-yellow AB patterns. We look forward to learning
more!
