Exploring Nature Through Seeds and Duck Eggs.
On Monday, we read about sunflower seeds and planted seeds
of our own. We also labelled the parts of a sunflower plant using kid printing.
We use Lively Letters to hear the letter sounds in each word. For example,
students might spell the word “leaf” as “lf” or “lef,” and “stem” as “stm.”
On Tuesday, we candled our seven duck eggs. There were shadows in almost all of them. What could be inside the eggs that is blocking the light? This Friday, the eggs will go into lockdown in the incubator. By next week, we will know if any of the duck eggs will hatch!
On Wednesday, we used what we learned more about about ducks to help us sequence and label the duck life cycle. The students worked very hard and paid close attention to the correct order of the life cycle.
On Thursday, we read a fun story called Waddles by David McPhail. In the story, Waddles the raccoon has a duck friend, and when her ducklings hatch, Waddles feels both happy and a little worried about them flying south for the winter. The students loved sharing their favourite parts of the story!
Fun book Friday and continuing to print more lowercase letters. And...a quick visit to Fletcher's Tree near our playground.
