More About Plants…
We have been visiting our special Fletcher’s Tree near the playground to observe how it changes through the four seasons. After reading Fletcher and the Springtime Blossoms, we talked about the many signs of spring and created story response drawings. We also wrote about our favourite parts of the story.
As part of our plant study, we explored the life cycle of a sunflower. We watched an amazing time-lapse video showing a sunflower growing from a tiny seed into a beautiful flower. Although a sunflower takes about 75 days to reach maturity, we were able to watch the entire process unfold in less than two minutes! We then used our science knowledge to sequence the stages of the sunflower life cycle.
Next, we are becoming plant experts and we wrote about how to grow
and care for plants. Using what we have learned about plants, along with our
Lively Letters sounds and alphabet knowledge, we practiced writing using “kid
spelling.” Here are some examples of our wonderful thinking:
We also read The Cool Bean and discussed what it means to be a good friend. The story helped us think about how kindness, inclusion, and helping others can make a positive difference in our classroom and community. We talked about ways we can show care and respect for others and how small acts of kindness can help everyone feel welcome and valued. We shared ways we can show kindness in our classroom and added our ideas to our self-portraits, “This Is Me in June.” Some of our ideas included:
On Friday morning, we were very excited to perform our Land
Acknowledgement Song at the Volunteer Tea. A few students had the opportunity
to personally thank some of the volunteers who help make our school and special
activities possible.
Thank you to all of our wonderful school volunteers for your time, support, and dedication to our school community!
