The Kindergarten Connection: SVS Team!: March 3-7, 2025

This week, we continued exploring our community as a place where we live, work, and play. Our personal community maps expanded as we added houses, vehicles, and road signs.

Students focused on the details that define a house, such as shapes, numbers, materials, and different components. We read "A House" by Kevin Henkes, which prompted deeper reflection on what makes a house a home.

We also went for a community walk to look for vehicles and signs nearby! We read books about vehicles and road signs found in our community. Students identified their vehicles—like school buses, ambulances, fire engines, and cars—by their colours, shapes, and symbols.

Similarly, we learned that road signs can also be recognized by these features, and students illustrated examples in their visual journals.

Ask your child to name the shapes and colors of the road signs they see on their way to and from school.

A significant part of our kindergarten program is learning about ourselves and how special and unique we are! We read the book "I Like Myself" and talked about the ways we can be confident of who we are, even if we are different from our friends! We completed our monthly self portrait and we can’t wait to see how our artwork shows our growth!

We had so much fun in the gym this week playing floor hockey. It all started with a game of Red Light Green Light with an exciting twist - using hockey sticks and felt pucks! Thank you Mrs. Rath who was in as a guest teacher for Mr. Collins!

We also continued to spread kindness to the "big kids" around the school by putting up posters we coloured that explains to "Be Kind...You never know what someone else is going through!"
