More Gingerbread Fun!
This week we continued our sweet and crafty gingerbread
journey! From reading more gingerbread cookie fairy tales, to crafting
symmetrical houses, and measuring with our special gingerbread tape, we had a
delightful week filled with joy and learning!
In "Ninjabread Man," our hero leaps and rolls to escape a sneaky fox. "Ka-pow! Hi-yah! And Shazam! You can't catch me I'm the Ninjabread Man!" Can you guess who saves him? We practiced drawing Ninjabread Man with masks, belts, and icing-like details, adding lines to show movement.
In Gingerbread Baby, the village searches for the playful, gingerbread baby, while Matti plans to to catch it with his new gingerbread house. We made predictions, created our own gingerbread houses, and hid tiny gingerbread babies inside. We also learned about symmetry—making both sides of our houses look the same, like a mirror!
We met the Gingerbread Bear! With help from forest friends
and a park ranger, the chase was exciting. "Run, run, try if you dare! You
can’t catch me—I’m the Gingerbread Bear!" Check out our directed drawings.
We read "Ten Gingerbread Men," a fun counting
story. Using our special gingerbread measuring tape, we measured classroom
items and practiced counting to 10 with paper clips, straws, and gingerbread
men!
Gingerbread House Day was on December 12th which celebrates a fun family tradition for many across the country. We watched a Mystery Science video asking, “Can you build a house out of cookies and candy?” We learned that gingerbread gets hard when baked, licorice can bend like a bridge, and peppermint sticks are super strong—almost like concrete! Ask your child what other things builders need to think about… like the weather!
