October 30-November 3, 2023

This week in kindergarten, we had some Halloween Fun!

Pumpkinella featured creative pumpkin carving by our SVS students including a few from our kindergarten students! Thank you families who donated pumpkins last week to use for our science investigation and for this week's kindergarten carving entries.

We also had a Halloween costume parade for our students in the grade one classrooms in the morning and in the gym in the afternoon. So much excitement to see super heroes, princesses, firefighters, Mario characters, friendly witches, music rock stars, , and so many more!

We read about Spookly the Square Pumpkin and created our own pumpkin patch with 2D shapes: circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares!

And a new class favorite!! - The very funny story read by the author Aaron Reynolds! We laughed so much as we enjoyed the story of Jasper Rabbit and his glow-in-the-dark underwear! Ask your child what was their favorite part of the story!

Pumpkin Jack Update!
Our sweet little pumpkin that we named Pumpkin Jack is now sealed into a lovely plastic container...we will be keeping tabs on him over the next months to see what happens as he decomposes...so exciting!

MATH Patterns continue...patterns repeat, they follow rules, and we can label the rules. We are learning to extend a pattern when we are given a "Pattern Core" like AB, AAB, ABC.

We continue to practice drawing people using Mat Man shapes to create a self portrait of "This is Me in November." The students are learning to add more details to help identify their own unique characteristics: hair, eye colour, ears, clothes they are wearing that day.

November is a special month to recognize the importance of peace and why it is important to acknowledge all those who serve to protect us both in the past and the present. The kindergarten students will be exploring questions like: What does peace feel like? What does peace look like? We will also be making some poppy art for a wreath to contribute to our school-wide Remembrance Day Assembly. The assembly will be on the morning of November 8 due to our Fall Break being Nov. 9-14.
